Transitioning to the Hearing Aid Dispensing course at Queen Margaret University has been an exciting step forward, opening doors to a realm of specialised knowledge and hands-on practice.
Under the tutelage of Stephen and Glen, I've delved deep into the inner workings of audiology clinics, gaining firsthand insights into their day-to-day operations.
From scheduling appointments to conducting diagnostic assessments, their guidance has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of how clinics are run.
As a team member, I've been entrusted with increasing levels of responsibility, contributing actively to the clinic's success.
A significant part of my training has been in the practical application of hearing aid dispensing.
Leveraging my background in healthcare assistance, I've quickly adapted to fitting and programming hearing aids, ensuring they're tailored to each individual's unique needs. With Glen and Stephen's mentorship, I've honed my skills in conducting real-ear measurements and providing ongoing support to patients as they adjust to their new devices.
Beyond technical proficiency, I've learned the importance of patient-centred care. Listening attentively to their concerns and preferences, I tailor my approach to meet their individual needs, whether assisting an elderly patient with dexterity issues or a young child with sensory sensitivities. Every interaction is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in their lives.
My time at Queen Margaret University has provided me with a solid theoretical foundation in audiology, complementing my practical experience in the clinic.
From understanding the anatomy of the auditory system to mastering the latest advancements in hearing aid technology, I've acquired the knowledge needed to navigate complex clinical scenarios with confidence.
Looking ahead
Looking ahead, I'm excited about the possibilities that lie ahead in my audiology career. Inspired by Stephen and Glen's mentorship, I'm eager to pursue advanced training opportunities and certifications, specialising further in areas such as pediatric audiology or assistive listening devices.
With dedication, compassion, and a commitment to excellence, I'm ready to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals with hearing loss, helping them fully engage in the world of sound and communication.
